Margie, a charter member and past president of the Rotary Club of Placida, has served as the Area 6 Governor (2005-2006), District 6960 Secretary (2000- 2003) and Chair of the Rules and Procedure Committee.
Prior to moving to Englewood in 1992 with her husband, PDG Leo “Pete” Cypher (1997 – 1998) from the Pittsburgh, PA area, she was the corporate secretary-treasurer of the International Truck Dealership, Leo E. Cypher, Inc. and actively participated in the Rotary Club of McKees Rocks, PA, Rotary District 7300. She volunteered in local adult literacy programs to teach adults to read, was a Meals-on-Wheel volunteer, taught AARP Defensive Driving classes, was an organizer and the secretary of the McKees Rocks Chamber of Commerce, and a member of the Western PA Independent Garage Owners. She was a certified Lay Minister of the Lutheran (ELCA) Church, served on her church council, and chaired numerous committees. Even after Margie’s daughters were raised, she remained active in the Girl Scouts of America in Pittsburgh, serving on the council and local levels as a troop leader, cookie chair, neighborhood manager and camp trainer/counselor.
Since living in Florida, Margie has volunteered her time to the AARP as a trainer and instructor for their Defensive Driving Program and to the Girl Scouts. Her spare time is currently filled by volunteering with the Gulfcoast Humane Society, the Big Brothers/Big Sisters Reading Program, and as treasurer of the Redeemer Lutheran Church Ladies Guild, as well as serving on other church committees.
Margie is a Paul Harris Major Donor and a charter member of the Paul Harris Society.
Her adult children, Cathie and Mike Skoog reside in Northern Virginia and Connie and Wayne Brinda in Freedom, PA.
